Day one comes down to three things: confirm stages are running, equip what drops, and combine same-grade gear in the Equipment Forge.

The first thing to do after you launch the game is not to study stats. It is to confirm that it is already running on its own. A small transparent window appears in the corner of your screen, and a 3D hero fights and picks up loot inside it. The store page puts it plainly: “Just leave it running, and it gets stronger on its own.”

Once you can see stages progressing, there are only three things worth doing on day one: equip what drops, combine same-grade duplicates at the Equipment Forge, and join an Alliance.

What the game already does for you

War of Genesis: Idle Loot is a free desktop idle loot RPG developed and published by New Normal Soft Inc. It entered Early Access on September 10, 2026 and currently ships for Windows PC only. Its defining trait is that there is no game window: the client runs with a transparent background on top of your desktop or another application.

The store page describes the input requirement as “No controls required.” The official screenshots show the same thing: the hero occupies a small part of the screen, and the HUD is a dark translucent capsule reading Normal 4-2 with a kill counter such as 56/100. In another official screenshot the same hero is fighting above a spreadsheet window.

The practical consequence is that this game does not ask you to set aside a block of screen time. It is designed to keep progressing while you work, watch something, or sleep. So raw playtime is not the problem you need to solve — the problem you need to solve is turning what the idle loop produces into a stronger hero.

The order to do things on day one

The sequence below is a recommended route assembled from the game’s own interface. It is not an official tutorial.

  1. Confirm stages are progressing. Watch the stage number and kill counter on the HUD. If nothing moves, fix the launch problem first — see system requirements and launch checks.
  2. Open the character panel and equip what dropped. The official screenshots show the character panel, the equipment grid and the Item Acquired popup belonging to the same interface.
  3. Collect same-grade duplicates and combine them. This happens in the Equipment Forge. The in-game text reads: “Combine items of the same grade to obtain an item of the next grade.”
  4. Join an Alliance once you can. There is an official achievement called “Join an Alliance”, and it is the first social milestone you can verify yourself.
  5. Leave it running. The store page frames this as the core loop: run stages, and gear keeps pouring out.

Equip first, compare later

The most common waste for a new player is waiting for something better. In the current build every item carries both an item level and a grade, and items of the same grade and slot differ because their options are rolled. There is no state in which you are “waiting for a perfect item”.

The right move is to fill empty slots with anything, then start replacing. How to judge a replacement is covered in judging a new drop, and the full slot and grade structure is in weapons and gear.

Equipment Forge: same grade in, next grade out

The Equipment Forge has two tabs, Combine and Dismantle, plus an Auto Register button. It is the only place where farming leftovers are turned back into progress.

Be clear about one thing up front: the success rate, the number of items required and any pity system are not published. Any guide quoting a specific percentage is guessing, and this wiki will not repeat unverified numbers. What you can rely on is the rule itself and the achievement milestones (Tier 4, Tier 5 and Tier 6 crafted items each have their own achievement). The full loop is in synthesis and dismantle.

When to join an Alliance

Joining an alliance is an official achievement, and alliances are what gate Alliance Raids. The store copy keeps it short: “Join an Alliance and grow together.”

Set expectations though. Players have publicly said on the official Steam forum that the current alliance system is more limited than they wanted — they asked for alliances with friends and for per-alliance chat. The developer has only promised Alliances and Alliance Raids so far. Details are in alliances and raids.

Three early traps

TrapWhy it costs youWhat to do instead
Stockpiling gold “for later”No official source publishes the gold sink curve, so hoarding produces nothingWatch where the interface actually spends gold before committing; ignore claims that it is “only for X”
Stacking one slotThere are 14 equipment slots, and an empty slot returns zeroFill every slot first, optimise individual pieces afterwards
Throwing loot awayDismantle and combine are the official recycling pathsKeep same-grade items for combining; send the rest through Dismantle
